Work out the return on a stock
=(B2-B1+B3)/B1How it works in Excel
- B2-B1 is the change in price.
- B3 is the dividends received.
- Dividing by B1 compares it to what you paid.
- Format the cell as a percentage.
- This ignores how long you held it.
The idea in general
Your gain is the change in price plus any cash paid along the way.
What I assumed
- The buy price is in B1, the sell price is in B2 and dividends are in B3.
Check the result on your own data before relying on it.
