Work out percent change
=(B2-A2)/A2How it works in Excel
- B2-A2 is how much the value changed.
- Dividing by A2 compares that change to where it started.
- Format the cell as a percentage.
- A negative result means a decrease.
- If the old value is 0 you get #DIV/0!. Wrap it in IFERROR if that can happen.
The idea in general
It compares the change to the starting point, so a $10 rise on $20 counts for more than a $10 rise on $1,000.
What I assumed
- The old value is in A2 and the new value is in B2.
Check the result on your own data before relying on it.
