How do I...
Copy a formula down a column
What to do
- Click the cell with the formula.
- Move the pointer to the small square at the bottom right corner.
- Double-click it, or drag it down.
Good to know
- Double-clicking stops at the first gap in the column beside it.
- Use a $ sign on any cell that must stay fixed.
- Dragging also continues patterns, such as 1, 2, 3 or Jan, Feb, Mar.
The idea in general
You write the rule once, and Excel adjusts it for each row.
What I assumed
- You are using Excel on a computer. Menus can look a little different on a Mac or in a browser.
