Calculate a moving average
=AVERAGE(B2:B4)How it works in Excel
- B2:B4 is the first 3 periods.
- Copy it down, and the 3-period window slides along.
- Start the formula on the third row of data, beside B4.
- A longer window gives a smoother line.
The idea in general
It smooths out bumps, so the trend is easier to see.
What I assumed
- Your numbers start in B2 and you want a 3-period average.
Check the result on your own data before relying on it.
