Find out where a number comes from
What to do
- Click the cell.
- Go to Formulas, then Trace Precedents.
- Arrows show which cells feed it.
- Click Remove Arrows when you are done.
Good to know
- Evaluate Formula, on the same tab, walks through a formula one step at a time.
- Trace Dependents shows what relies on this cell.
The idea in general
It draws the path a number took, so you can find where something went wrong.
What I assumed
- You are using Excel on a computer. Menus can look a little different on a Mac or in a browser.
