Add up a column of numbers
=SUM(B2:B5)How it works in Excel
- SUM adds every number in the range.
- B2:B5 means B2 through B5.
- Text and blank cells are ignored.
- You can press Alt and = to add a SUM quickly.
- Numbers stored as text are skipped, which can make a total look too low.
The idea in general
It is the same as adding a list on a calculator, but it updates when the list changes.
