Turn Yes and No into 1 and 0
=--(A2="Yes")How it works in Excel
- A2="Yes" gives TRUE or FALSE.
- The two minus signs turn that into 1 or 0.
- =IF(A2="Yes",1,0) does the same and is easier to read.
The idea in general
Numbers can be added up, so 1 and 0 are easy to total.

- The Yes or No is in A2.
