Check if a cell contains a word
=IF(ISNUMBER(SEARCH("north",A2)),"Yes","No")How it works in Excel
- SEARCH gives a position if the word is found, and an error if not.
- ISNUMBER turns that into true or false.
- IF shows Yes or No.
- SEARCH ignores upper and lower case. Use FIND if case matters.
The idea in general
It is like pressing Ctrl+F on one cell and reporting back.

- The text is in A2 and the word is "north".
