Count how many different items are in a list
=COUNTA(UNIQUE(A2:A6))How it works in Excel
- UNIQUE lists each item once.
- COUNTA counts that shorter list.
- It needs Excel 2021 or Microsoft 365.
- A blank cell inside the range counts as one item.

Cross out the repeats, then count what is left.
