Clean up text
Keep or add leading zeros
=TEXT(A2,"00000")How it works in Excel
- Each 0 in the quotes is one digit.
- Numbers shorter than that get zeros added at the front.
- The result is text, which suits ID numbers and zip codes.
- Formatting the cell as Text before typing also keeps zeros.
The idea in general
Some "numbers" are really labels, so their exact shape matters more than their value.
What I assumed
- The number is in A2 and you want 5 digits.
Check the result on your own data before relying on it.
