The basics
Measure how spread out numbers are
=STDEV.S(B2:B6)How it works in Excel
- STDEV.S measures how far values typically sit from the average.
- The S means your data is a sample.
- Use STDEV.P if the list is the whole population.
- VAR.S gives the variance, which is the same measure squared.
The idea in general
Two classes can share an average, but in one class everyone scored close to it. This measures that difference.
What I assumed
- Your numbers are in B2:B6.
Check the result on your own data before relying on it.
