Add up numbers for one month

How it works in Excel

• MONTH pulls the month number from each date.
• =E2 marks the rows in your chosen month.
• Multiplying keeps those numbers and zeroes the rest.
• E2 is a number from 1 to 12.
• This combines the same month across all years. Add a YEAR test if you need one year only.

The idea in general

Sort the receipts into one month's pile, then add up that pile.

What I assumed

• The dates are in A2:A5, the numbers are in B2:B5 and the month number is in E2.
