Find a value with INDEX and MATCH
=INDEX(B2:B5,MATCH(E2,A2:A5,0))How it works in Excel
- MATCH finds which row E2 is on inside A2:A5.
- 0 means an exact match.
- INDEX then reads that row from B2:B5.
- This works in every version of Excel.
- The answer column can be to the left of the search column.
- It keeps working if columns are added between the two ranges.
The idea in general
It is two steps: first find the position, then read whatever is at that position.
What I assumed
- Your list is in A2:B5 and the item you want is in E2. Change these to match your sheet.
Check the result on your own data before relying on it.
