Look things up
Find a value in a table (XLOOKUP)
=XLOOKUP(E2,A2:A5,B2:B5,"Not found")How it works in Excel
- E2 is the item you are searching for.
- A2:A5 is the column Excel searches.
- B2:B5 is the column the answer comes from.
- "Not found" is what shows if there is no match.
- XLOOKUP looks for an exact match by default.
- It works left or right, so the answer column can be on either side.
- It needs Excel 2021 or Microsoft 365. Use INDEX and MATCH on older versions.
The idea in general
This is like using a phone book: find the name in one column, then read the number next to it.
What I assumed
- Your list is in A2:B5 and the item you want is in E2. Change these to match your sheet.
Check the result on your own data before relying on it.
