Look things up
Find a value with VLOOKUP
=VLOOKUP(E2,A2:B5,2,FALSE)How it works in Excel
- E2 is the item you are searching for.
- A2:B5 is the whole table.
- 2 means return the second column of that table.
- FALSE means only accept an exact match.
- VLOOKUP always searches the first column of the table.
- It cannot return a column to the left of the search column.
- Adding a column inside the table can break the column number, so check it after changes.
The idea in general
You give it a table and say "find this row, then read across to column 2."
What I assumed
- Your list is in A2:B5 and the item you want is in E2. Change these to match your sheet.
Check the result on your own data before relying on it.
