Look things up
Find the most common word in a list
=INDEX(A2:A6,MODE.SNGL(MATCH(A2:A6,A2:A6,0)))How it works in Excel
- MATCH turns each item into a position number.
- MODE.SNGL finds the most common position.
- INDEX turns it back into the word.
- If two items tie, you get the one that appears first.
- On older versions, finish this formula with Ctrl+Shift+Enter.
The idea in general
Words can't be averaged, so you swap them for numbers and swap back.
What I assumed
- The list is in A2:A6.
Check the result on your own data before relying on it.
