Work with dates
Pull the year, month or day from a date
=YEAR(A2)How it works in Excel
- YEAR gives the year from the date in A2.
- Swap YEAR for MONTH or DAY to get those parts.
- For the month name, use =TEXT(A2,"mmmm").
- If you get #VALUE!, the date may be stored as text.
The idea in general
A date is made of parts, and this reads just one of them.
What I assumed
- The date is in A2.
Check the result on your own data before relying on it.
