Fix an error
Fix the #REF! error
What to do
- #REF! means the formula points to a cell that no longer exists.
- Press Ctrl+Z if you just deleted something.
- Otherwise, click the cell and retype the broken part of the formula.
Good to know
- Deleting a row, column or sheet that a formula uses is the usual cause.
- A lookup asking for a column past the end of its table can do this too.
The idea in general
It is like a street address for a house that has been torn down.
What I assumed
- You are using Excel on a computer. Menus can look a little different on a Mac or in a browser.
