Find the quarter of a date

How it works in Excel

• MONTH gives a number from 1 to 12.
• Dividing by 3 and rounding up gives 1 to 4.
• For the label Q2, use ="Q"&ROUNDUP(MONTH(A2)/3,0).
• If your fiscal year starts in another month, shift the month first.

The idea in general

A year splits into four blocks of three months, and this finds the block.

• The date is in A2 and your year starts in January.
